Rise & Shine Montessori

Rise & Shine Montessori was established in 1990.  It was one of the first child care centers to offer an academic teaching program along with child care.  The program is taught by two proficient teachers:

Director of Rise & Shine Montessori: Shyrose Nurmohamed is a qualified and licensed Early Childhood Educator as well as a certified Montessori trained teacher.

  • She has been a longstanding member of the Richmond Child Care Resource and Referral Center and the Western Canada Family Child Care Association as well as Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia.
  • Shyrose constantly engages in ongoing professional development to pursue excellence in education, organizes and presents workshops and also provides parents with updates on child development through the Center’s newsletters.
  • Shyrose has mentored several student teachers at Rise & Shine in the past. She holds open houses and often hosts meetings at her center for other early childhood educators, thus encouraging colleagues to work in a team environment.
  • Ms. Rose, as she is respectfully known by the children, dedicates many hours to support the development of
children and their education. Committed to her field, she seeks innovative approaches to encourage and educate the children in her care, whilst engaging the families in a strong sense of community.

In November of 2014, Shyrose Nurmohamed, Director of Rise and Shine Montessori, was one of five Early Childhood Educators across Canada to win the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education for her work with children and the community as well as her center’s unique programming and environment.

In May of 2012, Shyrose was honored with an award from the Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Children and Families for Excellence in Teaching Innovation.  This award recognizes Rise & Shine’s unique program, environment and teaching practices.

Shyrose has been elected for the fifth consecutive year by the Municipal Government to serve as the Vice-Chairperson of the City of Richmond’s Child Care Development and Advisory Board Committee. This has been an ongoing, voluntary commitment.

She has also been elected as the Chairperson of the Richmond Child Care Alliance, another ongoing voluntary commitment for the past five years.
